Seeing #Double

Journalists

By: Radhika Patel and Susannah Sowell

As our five weeks are wrapping up, we’ve started to notice similarities and doppelgängers between our fellow scholars and various celebrities, RAs, and even faculty! Featured are:

1. Kristen Price and Bridgit Mendler

Kristen Price from Christian Academy of Louisville looks very similar to the Disney Channel favorite, Brigit Mendler, of Good Luck Charlie and Lemonade Mouth. At summer camp last year, Kristen claims fellow campers continued to call her Bridgit and Teddy throughout the program. In the future, she would love to play teenage Charlie in a Good Luck Charlie spinoff called “Thank You Teddy.” Kristen is happy to be compared to Mendler since she says she thinks Mendler is very pretty, and she never went crazy like some young stars are known to do.

2. Caroline Sowell and Susannah Sowell

This pair is a set of twins from Oldham County who actually don’t know if they’re identical or fraternal! Caroline claims that she thinks they do look alike, and she hopes they are identical because it seems more fun. Though they are often mistaken for the other, it doesn’t bug either of them when people mess up their names. “Just ask us, we don’t mind telling you who’s who!” says Susannah.

3. Zach Broyles and Big Time Rush and Bellarmine Poster

Zach Broyles from North Laurel High School has two look alikes. The more well known is James from Big Time Rush, a children’s television show from Nickelodeon that many of us watched.  Zach says that he “couldn’t be prouder to be Big Time Rush” and that he agrees that he looks similar to the band member. Other scholars claim that he looks like several of the band members!

Another fun find is that Zach looks similar to the student on the Merton Spirit sign in McGowan Hall in Centro. This discovery was very exciting. At first Zach claimed that he didn’t see the resemblance, but after seeing the picture of the two side by side he was surprised about the similarities. Just go walk through the hall to see for yourself!

4. Maddie Soard and Zoey Novak

These two were fast friends in journalism, but they quickly found out that their teacher couldn’t keep them straight! After five weeks they are still sometimes mistaken for each other. Both agree that they don’t look like each other, but Zoey believes that it might be the eyebrows that make them look alike. It does bother Maddie that people can’t keep them straight, but neither of them are legitimately angry about the situation.

5. McKeeya Faulkner and Whoopi Goldberg

Faulkner is from Caverna High School near Mammoth Cave. She doesn’t think she looks like Whoopi Goldberg, but some scholars noticed that although Goldberg is much older, there is a slight resemblance. She was surprised about this, because she’s never heard this claim before. Faulkner does love Goldberg, and likes to listen to her talk.

6. Jen Price and Amanda

Amanda Moberly (left) and Jen Price (right)

As all scholars saw at the community meeting during Week 4, RA Amanda Moberly can do a fantastic impression of our campus director Jen Price. When asked if she thinks Amanda looks like her, Jen said no, but that she did a “fantastic job” portraying her, mostly because of the facial expressions and mannerisms that Amanda had mastered. Jen even went as far to say that it was the best portrayal of herself she’s ever seen, and there have been at least five!

7. Ashlyn Martin and Jaley Adkins

Jaley Adkins from Belfry High School and Ashlyn Martin from Woodford County High School were mistaken for each other many times throughout the first week. Since they’re close friends it doesn’t bother them too much that people sometimes mistake them for each other. Ashlyn thinks it’s probably because they have the same colored hair, but overall neither of them think that it should be as big of a confusion as it’s become!

Hopefully you’ve seen these look alikes around campus! Next time you see one say hello and decide for yourself if they are identical or totally different. Also be aware of the other honorable mention doppelgängers. There’s Emily Slone who many often confuse for Taylor Swift from her country day; she has the beautiful, thick, blonde curly hair to prove it! The campus also has Nell and Sophie Ryzdewski: two twins who look similar, but are definitely their own unique persons. They are well known on campus because of their outstanding performances in the talent showcases and This GSP Life. One last doubling duo is Emily Ezell and Helen Heines. Many have noted the resemblance between Emily and our assistant campus director Helen, even though they themselves don’t see it. Keep your eyes open GSP, and try to find the many other duos not mentioned, because they’re out there!

After completing undergraduate school at the University of Kentucky, Josh obtained a Masters in Water Resources from Minnesota and a Masters in Teaching from Cornell University. Outside of the program, Josh teaches a variety of science classes at Berea Community High School. When asked about his favorite part of the program, Josh responded with, “My favorite part is the notion that the five weeks is not really the program. It is everything after.” Nearly thirty years later, Josh and his fellow scholars are still close friends.
