And cut scene! The frenzied excitement could be felt as soon as one walked into Michelle’s Dramatic Expressions Focus Area a day before (Anon)ymous, the play the class is performing this Tuesday.
In order to get the class moving in preparation for Tuesday, Michelle started out the class with exercises focused on physical activity. The class stretched and moved on stage to feel more comfortable with their environment. Then, props were put in place, each scholar changed into his/her respective attire, and the rehearsal began.
The play features Anon, a young refugee from a faraway land, who travels the country, trying to find some semblance of home, and the mother he was separated from a long time ago. The visually and verbally stunning script is the perfect vehicle for a large cast of multi-generational, diverse performers.
The first scene that the class rehearsed was the “fight.” Two characters, played by Esha Khan of Elizabethtown and Cameron Walker of Madisonville, pole fight intensely. The dynamic between these two characters is very well portrayed, as both Khan and Walker did well to step into the shoes of their respective characters.
After both characters had mastered the “fight,” Michelle suggested that the class go through Scene 1 to work out last minute kinks in the script and lighting. It is certain that the play will be a show-stopper.
