Going Around the GSWorld

By: Radhika Patel

A waft of Indian spices. The beat of a djembe. The mystical touch of a kimono. Scholars had the chance to take a trip around the world right here in Frazier Hall at Bellarmine University.

Hosted by Ellen’s Cultural Anthropology class, the first annual Multicultural Day featured numerous showcases representing the sheer diversity of the Bellarmine GSP community. The event started with representatives pointing to their respective cultural booths, eager to display the unique traits only found within their individual countries. Scholars were exposed to cultures ranging from the savannahs of Africa to Catholic school customs.

As the event went on, the addition of food and music added to the rich liveliness already present in the hall. An hour into the fair, a fashion show swept the crowd with awe. The glittering outfits exhibited on the runway showed just how unequivocal each country is. Individual performances involved operatic singing along with folk dances in native gear.

The fair concluded with the epic showcase of a Bollywood dance performed by Ellen’s very own Cultural Anthropology focus area. Led by Shria Holla of the Model Laboratory School, the dance was a show-stopper; clapping and dancing from the audience itself portrayed just how much the GSP community has allowed us to see the diverse roots from which we stem from.
